To treat or not to treat

Thesis cover design

I remember seeing my first patient with immune thrombocytopenia. Luckily, I was working with a pediatrician who could tell me all about it — and who later asked me to design the cover of her PhD thesis. This was one of the first projects that combined my medical and graphic design skills. (It definitely sparked my enthusiasm!)

Immune thrombocytopenia is characterized by a diminished amount of platelets in the blood. As a visual analogy to the disease process, I designed a cover featuring scarce red accents. We then used UV spot printing to further highlight the platelets in the design. The end result is a design that reflects the main focus of her research.
